About Us

On July 11, 1930 the Fire Comittee of West Alexander ordered a used Ford pumper & Hose car from American LaFrance and Foamite Industries Inc. for $800.00.  On March 26, 1931 the Fire Comittee of West Alexander held a meeting to form the West Alexander V.F.D.  At this meeting they appointed officers of the West Alexander Volunteer Fire Company.  Elmer E. Craver was appointed as the first Fire Chief.

The first meeting of the West Alexander VFD was held on April 1, 1931, the first Wednesday of the month, a tradition that is still carried on with the department.  Thirty five members attended the meeting and adopted by-laws.

On June 3, 1931 a meeting of the West Alexander VFD was held at the "Hose House" and the primary discussions were about how to raise money for the VFD.

On October 14, 1938 the West Alexander Volunteer Fire Department mailed it's first fire prevention letter to the citizens of West Alexander.  The letter implored citizens to check and maintain their chimneys and flues, remove clutter from around the "heating plant", repair faulty electric appliances and wiring, aviod piling hot ashes against wood fixtures or the floor, not to use kerosene in lighting fixtures and to aviod cleaning with gasoline.
